The living green cultural heritage in Sagalund
The founder of the museum Nils Oskar Jansson was a great admirer of Carl von Linné and he often dreamt of broadening the museum to include a botanical garden. In 1895 Nils Oskar listed all the plants that grow in the Vreta school garden and even the origin of many of them. Many of these species still grow in the museum garden either as original plants or their offsprings. This over 100 years-old collection of plants is a significant part of Sagalund’s cultural heritage. Museum continues the tradition that Nils Oskar Jansson started and receives plant donations of old species from Kimitoö . For example in the rosegarden there is a collection of Kimitoö roses.
